Presidency March 2025
In March 2025, Denmark holds the Presidency of the UN Security Council
Denmark is honoured to take up this task. It is a great responsibility to chair Council meetings and manage the Council programme of work with many important items on the agenda. It is an ambition for Denmark to be constructive and creative and to find compromises – even under difficult circumstances - and to support the Council’s ability to respond to new developments in a constantly changing world.
It is also a unique opportunity to put focus on Danish cross-cutting and thematic priorities. Building on the Danish priority of adapting conflict responses and prevention to new realities, Denmark is planning to host a high-level signature event on the future of UN peace operations at the end of March. We will further integrate our priorities on Women, Peace and Security and Climate, Peace and Security across our Presidency.
The annual meeting on cooperation between the EU and the UN will also take place during the Danish Presidency with attendance from the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Ms Kaja Kallas. Other meetings include the renewal of the mandate for the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), a briefing on the UN peacekeeping mission in DRC (MONUSCO) as well as a series of meetings on the situation in the Middle East.
Denmark looks forward to an exciting month.
